Preparations are well underway to get their squad up to scratch to meet the demands of the second tier, but with one eye on the future the Rams are nearing an addition.

Doyle, 16, is a highly-rated defender in Celtic’s academy. The youngster has featured for Republic of Ireland’s youth sides and he has been on the radar at Pride Park for sometime now.

The Athletic are reporting that a deal is already in place and he will make the move to England in the next few weeks. Derby County are said to be confident of finalising this one this summer.

Who is this?

One for the future

The 16-year-old isn’t going to make an instant mark Paul Warne’s first team, but he should become a regular in the Rams’ academy for the time being.

He is somewhat of an unknown prospect with very little information on the teen available, however he comes having been backed heavily and he clearly has the potential to improve a lot.

In the meantime though, it is important Derby County look to strengthen for the here and now to ensure they establish themselves back in the second tier of English football at the first time of asking.

Warne knows the demands of the Championship and that experience should help them as they prepare over the summer to get off to a good start.

One step at a time

Derby County were in the Championship play-off final not too long ago. However, off the pitch issues saw them fall into League One soon after.

The Rams are a club more than capable of challenging at the top end of England’s second tier, but the immediate focus has to be on survival and ensuring they don’t return back to League One once again.

Their summer recruitment will be key and alongside Portsmouth and Oxford United they will be up against it in a lot of games this season as the underdogs. However, the foundations seem to be in place and a comfortable season for the Rams is a definite possibility for Warne and his side this season.
