Burnley dealt transfer blow in pursuit of 25-year-old

Burnley’s hopes of signing Hoffenheim winger Jacob Bruun Larsen have been ‘dashed’ following their relegation with Fulham now moving in, according to reporter Alan Nixon on his Patreon page.

Burnley announced on their retained list that they were in ‘conversations’ over keeping hold of the attacker on a permanent basis. However, it now appears unlikely that he will be heading back to Turf Moor, especially following Vincent Kompany’s surprise exit to Bayern Munich.

Bruun Larsen, 25, joined the Clarets on loan at the end of July last year to bolster their attacking department after they were relegated from the Football League. He went on to score seven goals in 32 appearances in all competitions for the Lancashire outfit, six of which came in the league.

In this latest update regarding his situation by journalist Nixon on his Patreon page, Fulham have now swooped in as they look to throw the forward a Premier League lifeline.

Burnley chances of landing loan star dashed

Bringing back Bruun Larsen was always going to be a tall order for Burnley after they slipped out of the top flight along with Luton Town and Sheffield United.

He was a shining light for the Clarets during a tough past campaign and deserves a switch to Craven Cottage.

The Denmark international, who has six caps under his belt so far in his career, has been named in his country’s squad for their upcoming Euro 2024 campaign in Germany. They are in England’s group along with Serbia and Slovenia.

Bruun Larsen has been on the books of parent club Hoffenheim since 2020 and has played 57 matches for the Bundesliga outfit, finding the net on six occasions. He has also been shipped out on loan to Anderlecht in the past.

He started out at Lyngby before Borussia Dortmund snapped him up as a teenager. He then went on to play 41 matches for the German giants as a youngster, as well as having a temporary stint away at Stuttgart to get some experience under his belt.

What next for Burnley?

Burnley have the chance to bolster their ranks once the transfer window opens as they look to gain an immediate promotion next term.

With Fulham targeting Bruun Larsen, they may have to start looking for possible winger alternatives.

Their immediate focus will be on finding the right replacement for Kompany though. Craig Bellamy is currently in interim charge and the Clarets will want to make sure they bring in the correct candidate.
