Peterborough United man in talks to sign for German club on free transfer

Peterborough United man Josh Knight is in talks with Hannover 96 to sign for them on a free transfer this summer, as per Football Insider.

Peterborough United are preparing for another year in League One this season.

The Posh finished 4th last season in the third tier, but failed to make it to the play-off final, losing to eventual winners Oxford United.

Darren Ferguson is the man at the helm still and he will be hoping to have his side raring to go come the start of the 2024/25 campaign.

But, they may need to do so without Knight. The 26-year-old defender featured in 57 games across all competitions last season. Scoring six and assisting four primarily from centre back.

He has been a regular at the club since joining from Leicester City’s academy in 2021.

Now, his contract is set to expire at the end of the month and Hannover have held talks over a possible free transfer.

Who is this?

A key asset

Losing Knight would be a blow. A deal appears to be on the verge of completion and Ferguson will be losing a very good member of his squad.

Hannover finished 6th in Germany’s second tier last season and will be hoping to push for promotion next season.

Knight is yet to be exposed to football outside of England, but he should be able to hold his own in the Bundesliga 2.

Focus on the incomings

Now, attention will shift to who Peterborough United look to bring in. Their transfer business is always interesting to keep an eye on with their owner often quite open about who they are targeting.

They could do with another addition at the back, but with the summer still in its early stages, there is no rush and the club must ensure they bring in the right player to aid their promotion push next time around.

League One lost some good teams last season. Portsmouth and Derby County were strong sides and their promotions will open the door for the likes of Posh to kick up the league.

However, Birmingham City and Rotherham United particularly are two sides who have just been relegated and are appearing to be making very serious moves already in the transfer window.
