Peterborough United make ‘very good offer’ to 26-year-old amid European transfer talks

Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson has revealed a second ‘very good’ contract offer has been made to key defender Josh Knight.

Peterborough United are used to seeing their star players attract interest and this summer looks set to be no different.

Among those drawing admiring glances is out of contract defender Josh Knight. The 26-year-old starred alongside Ronnie Edwards last season but despite being offered fresh terms, he is still set to become a free agent as things stand.

Interestingly, Knight had been linked with Werder Bremen before reports claimed Hannover 96 are now in talks to bring the Posh star over to Germany ahead of next season.

Now though, amid these fresh reports, it has emerged that Peterborough United have made a final move to try and keep their influential centre-back.

Speaking to the Peterborough Telegraph, Posh boss Darren Ferguson said that a new ‘very good offer’ has been made to Knight in a bid to keep him onboard. It is now down to the player to make a call.

“Fair play to the chairman as he has been back to Josh and offered him even better terms.

“We can’t do a lot more, but if I was a betting man I would expect him to leave. I’m not aware of the club keen on him, but I know he has received a very good offer from them.

“Our chairman responded with making him a very good offer as well.”

Who is this?

Weighing up the next move

Knight’s next move is very much in his hands, and with at least two offers seemingly on the table, he could have a few to pick from as he weighs up his future.

Peterborough United and Ferguson will be determined to hold onto him. Knight has become a standout in League One and losing both him and defensive partner Edwards would give Posh a lot of work to do ahead of next season.

However, few will dispute Knight’s decision if he opts to head elsewhere. If the Hannover offer is the one on the table, that could be a really exciting option for the defender to explore having spent the entirety of his career to date playing in England.

Posh seem confident that their offer is a strong one, but as Ferguson stated himself, he still expects Knight to opt against staying at London Road.

The summer ahead for Posh

Knight isn’t the only player who could end up moving on from Peterborough United this summer.

The club have a number of star assets and at least some look likely to move on. The standout contender for a move is Ronnie Edwards, who arguably deserves to have made a high-profile move sooner.

Harrison Burrows’ starring season has drawn admirers and with a year left on his contract, the time may have come to cash in.

The likes of Hector Kyprianou could draw admiring glances as well, while Ephron Mason-Clark will be heading to Coventry City after the winter transfer agreement.
