Leeds United are gearing up for another campaign in the Championship after losing to Southampton in the play-off final last month.

Leicester City won the second tier last time around and are back in the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Both clubs would’ve been aiming for promotion next season and whilst only seven points separated the two, one won the league and the other didn’t go up.

Daniel Farke’s side are expected to have a busy summer window once again and one man still linked with a move to Elland Road is MacNulty.

The 21-year-old left-sided defender spent last season in the Eredivisie with PEC Zwolle. He made 31 top tier appearances in the Netherlands, contributing to four league goals.

The Spanish-born youngster began his career in Germany coming through the ranks at Wolfsburg. He is a current international for Ireland’s U21 and has been at Zwolle for 12 months.

However, reports suggest Leeds United could make a move for him this summer. The Foxes were also said to be interested, however it is claimed they have cooled their interest and therefore potentially left the door open for the Whites.

Who is this?

Plenty of potential

MacNulty has time on his side and a lot of room to grow in his career. He played at a good level last season and whilst the Championship would bring another set of demands, he seems capable of coping with that.

Leicester City may not feel like it’s worth the risk now they are back in the Premier League as the Foxes may look to target players with more experience.

The Whites are likely to lose a few of their first team squad this summer and replacements will be needed at affordable prices. This makes MacNulty a smart target and a realistic one for Farke’s side this summer.

No room for error

The Championship is always a tough league but it doesn’t appear to be as strong this year as it was last.

The three newly-relegated sides in Luton Town, Burnley and Sheffield United don’t pose as much of a threat as Leeds United, Southampton and Leicester City before them and that means the Whites will be keen to finish inside the top two this season.

Farke has a good record of delivering that with Norwich City. However, a good start is crucial. Their summer business will be a big factor in deciding how their campaign goes and whilst there is a long way still to go, they are seemingly quite active in the window already.
