Swansea City eyeing £500,000 move for international striker

Swansea City are considering a move for St Johnstone man Adama Sidibeh, as per Alan Nixon.

Swansea City will be hoping to push up the Championship table this season.

The Swans finished 14th last time out and are now gearing up for Luke Williams’ first full campaign at the helm. The former Notts County boss was appointed in January and struggled to build any sort of real consistency in the final few months of the campaign.

Now though, he has a full summer to prepare his side and make his mark and it will be hoped they get off to a good start to the 2024/25 campaign.

They are already active in the market. Nixon is reporting that Swansea City have identified Sidibeh as a target. The Gambian striker currently plays in Scotland for St Johnstone and has a fixed price of £500,000.

Who is this?

A risk worth taking?

The Gambian international made the move to Scotland in February from non-league club Warrington Rylands.

Since moving north of the border, he has scored five goals in 15 games for the Saints and he could be set for a second move up the football pyramid in quick succession.

However, Nixon claims the striker feels loyalty towards St Johnstone and that may make it harder for Williams’ side to tempt him to Wales this summer.

It would be a risk given he has played just 15 games of professional, senior football in the UK. However, he adapted to the demands of the Scottish top flight with ease and he could do the same with England’s second tier.

Building something meaningful

Williams was a huge part of Notts County’s success in the National League and the football he got his side playing was superb.

He then had his team competing in League Two, before leaving to join Swansea City earlier this year.

The Swans have had several seasons of mediocrity since dropping into the Championship in 2018. They have failed to really make a proper push for a play-off spot since 2021 and it seems like many other clubs they could be in the Championship for much longer than first intended.

It will take time, but if given the right backing Williams could make Swansea City a real force in the second tier. However, results are crucial and he must show improvement from last season otherwise he risks not seeing out the campaign at the club.
