Coventry City hold firm interest in international midfielder, report claims

Coventry City hold genuine interest in New Zealand midfielder Marko Stamenic, as per Coventry Live.

Coventry City will be hoping to push up the Championship table next season.

Mark Robins’ side reached the semi final of the FA Cup, but a poor run of form to end their league campaign saw them slip away from the top six.

Stamenic, 22, has been at Red Star Belgrade for over a year now and has made 35 appearances in all competitions since joining them. The versatile midfielder can also fill a gap at central defence and he has featured 15 times for his country.

Reports broke in Serbia last month suggesting the Sky Blues had agreed a deal for Stamenic. A fee of around £4.26m was mentioned.

Coventry Live soon squashed that claiming no bid had been made. And a new report from them now states Coventry City’s interest in the midfielder is ‘firm’, but Stamenic’s recent arrival into England has nothing to do with a potential transfer.

Exciting times ahead

Robins has built up the Sky Blues incredibly well. His side is full of talent and when firing they are one of the best teams in the Championship.

Coventry City will be looking to strengthen this summer as well as holding onto some of their key players. However, the club’s history suggests they will sell their talent for the right price because they back themselves to find suitable replacements and that is a huge reason as to why they’ve been so successful in recent times.

However, it remains to be seen whether Coventry City’s interest materialises into a bid and this one could be one to keep an eye on over the summer window.

Pushing for Premier League

Robins will no doubt have aspirations of a top six finish next season. Coventry City’s current squad is more than capable and some reinforcements over the summer would make them real contenders.

The second tier is never an easy one to win promotion from, but it could be argued that the league currently looks a bit weaker than it did this time last year which could provide a side like Coventry City the perfect chance to pounce.

Burnley, Sheffield United and Luton Town are all back in the Championship and will all be hoping to push for a top six finish. However, it is expected Coventry City will be firmly in the mix.
