Nottingham Forest lead chase for Southampton man, future uncertain

Southampton striker Che Adams has received an improved proposal from Nottingham Forest who now lead the race for his signature, as per Fabrizio Romano.

Southampton are heading for the Premier League but it remains to be seen if they do so with striker Adams still in the ranks.

The Scot has been at the centre of transfer speculation for some time and as it stands, his contract at St. Mary’s expires at the end of this month. Should it end, he will be free to explore his options as a free agent.

There have been regular reports of interest with Wolves consistently said to be keen.

However, writing on X, reporter Fabrizio Romano now claims there’s a new leader in the race.

He states that Nottingham Forest have made an improved proposal for the Southampton striker and as a result, they’re now in the best position to complete a deal for the 27-year-old. They’re ‘confident’ of getting a move done, he says.

Adams notched 17 goals and six assists in 46 games across all competitions in the 2023/24 season as the Saints made an immediate return to the Premier League.

Who is this?

A decision to make

It seems as though the ball is firmly in Adams’ court coming into this summer.

Southampton have little else they can do as his deal winds down, so the striker will be taking his time to weigh up his best options as he prepares for the new campaign.

Regardless, it looks highly likely that he’ll be playing Premier League football next season. He’s got plenty of action at that level before and with Nottingham Forest and Wolves vying for his signature, he’ll likely add to his experience there.

Adams has played 124 times in the Premier League, chipping in with 25 goals and 13 assists along the way.

A blow for Southampton?

If Adams is to move on from St. Mary’s, it will be a blow to see him depart. That will only he heightened if he heads to a Premier League rival.

It’s not only a blow to lose him, but to see him go on a free transfer is a worry. He probably could have raised some decent funds for the Saints with a sale but given his contract situation, there’s little else they can do.

It will leave a game in the Southampton frontline and will mean a striker or two is definitely on the shopping list coming into a vital summer transfer window.

Time will tell just how the matter pans out, but Nottingham Forest seem to be growing in confidence as they pursue Adams.
