Update regarding Charlton Athletic target emerges as the Addicks chase deal for 24-year-old

Charlton Athletic have met the asking price of Dunfermline Athletic defender Josh Edwards along with Bristol Rovers, according to a report by The Courier.

Charlton Athletic are keen to lure the left-back to The Valley this summer as they prepare for another year in League One. However, they will have to see off competition from league rivals Bristol Rovers if they are to get him.

Edwards, 24, has been linked with a few Football League clubs over recent times ahead of the upcoming transfer window.  The Daily Record have previously claimed that Blackpool and Wycombe Wanderers, whilst Football Insider have claimed Oxford United and Lincoln City like him.

In this latest update regarding his situation by The Courier, the Addicks and the Gas have both matched his valuation and can pursue the deal. He has a year left on his current contract and is expected to head out the exit door.

Charlton Athletic could see Edwards as someone to bolster their defensive department as Nathan Jones looks to put his own stamp on the squad.

He had an impressive past campaign in the Scottish Championship for Dunfermline Athletic and made 42 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with four goals and a decent nine assists.

The Scotsman started his career with spells as a youngster in the academies at Kilmarnock and Ayr United.

He also had a stint at Ayrshire boys’ club Crosshouse Community before being snapped up by Airdrieonians in 2017 as a teenager.

Edwards made his first-team debut in the same year and went on to play 39 matches before being lured away from Dunfermline Athletic.

The full-back has since established himself as a key player at East End Park and has enjoyed plenty of game time over recent times, alerting attention of teams down the border.

Charlton Athletic matching his price tag is one step closer to getting the deal done.

However, Bristol Rovers still remain in the frame though and they will need to better the Pirates’ offer if they are tempt him down to London for next term.
