Leicester City could offload goalkeeping pair this summer

Leicester City goalkeeper Danny Ward ‘could’ be moved on this summer along with Daniel Iverson, as detailed in a report by The Athletic.

Leicester City may cut ties with the stoppers following their promotion to the Premier League. They have gone up from the Championship along with Ipswich Town and play-off winners Southampton after winning the title under Enzo Maresca last term before his exit to Chelsea.

Ward, 30, has been on the books at the King Power Stadium since 2018 but has fallen out of favour. Iverson, meanwhile, spent the second-half of the last campaign on loan at Stoke City.

In this latest update regarding the pair by The Athletic, they both might be sold on a permanent basis in the upcoming transfer window. Mads Hermansen was the Foxes’ number one last term after moving over to England from Brøndby IF just over 12 months ago.

Ward still has another year left on his contract at Leicester City running until 2025.

According to a report by The Sun, Sheffield United were keen on him in January but a switch to South Yorkshire didn’t materialise in the end.

The Wales international, who has 40 caps under his belt to date, rose up through the youth ranks at Wrexham.

He was then snapped up by Liverpool in 2012 as a youngster before going on to have loan spells away at Anfield to boost his development at Morecambe, Aberdeen and Huddersfield Town.

The Foxes signed him permanently six years ago and he has since made 47 appearances in all competitions for them to date. However, he didn’t feature for them at all last season under Maresca.

As for Iverson, he is also down the pecking order at Leicester City. The 26-year-old signed for them back in 2016 from Esbjerg and has made 17 first-team outings since then.

He has also been shipped out to Oldham Athletic, Rotherham United, OH Leuven, Preston and Stoke City in the past to get experience.

What next for Leicester City duo?

Cutting ties with both Ward and Iverson would help free up space and funds in the Foxes’ squad to bring in other targets as they gear up for life back in the top flight.

Their immediate focus right now though will be on finding the right manager.
