Burnley, Birmingham City in pursuit of available manager, talks held

Burnley and Birmingham City have both held talks with Frank Lampard in their respective pursuits of a new boss, according to Football Insider.

Burnley and Birmingham City are both on the hunt for a new boss this summer.

The Clarets have seen Vincent Kompany depart for German giants Bayern Munich in a shock move while the Blues are pursuing a new manager following the permanent exit of Tony Mowbray, who had been on a period of medical leave.

Numerous names have been linked with both jobs already and now, despite the difference in leagues heading into next season, the clubs have a similar name on their radars.

After Alan Nixon reported on his Patreon that Burnley were due to hold talks with Frank Lampard, Football Insider now claims that both the Turf Moor outfit and Birmingham City have spoken to the out-of-work manager in their new boss hunts.

Lampard is said to be high on the shortlist at St. Andrew’s as they look to make an eye-catching appointment.

Who is this?

A Burnley move more likely?

It remains to be seen whether either Burnley or Birmingham City’s rumoured interest in Lampard is firmed up with an offer but if both were to make moves, you have to think the former would be favoured.

The Blues have been linked with some eye-catching names and Lampard is definitely among them. The feeling is that a drop down awaits Lampard but after time in the Premier League, it would be a big surprise for him to go all the way down to League One.

The project at St. Andrew’s is a promising one, but with Burnley sure to fight it out towards the top end of the Championship table, they might be a more attractive option.

Lampard will be determined to work his way back up the ladder after a quick rise in his managerial career, and the Burnley job could stand him in better stead in his efforts.

Back in the dugout

There’s been plenty of movement in the managerial market this summer and it could pave the way for Lampard to come back into the game.

His time at Derby County was impressive and in a tough situation, he worked well at Chelsea before the time came to kick on. That was when he struggled and duly departed, then leading Everton safety.

Again, after taking them out of danger, they weren’t able to push on under his lead and made a change. As for the most recent stint in charge of Chelsea on a caretaker basis, the less said the better.

However, in the Championship, or even League One if Birmingham City get their way, Lampard could have a good chance to rebuild his reputation in the dugout. Time will tell if either of his admirers make a firm move though amid rumoured discussions.
