Hull City trying to re-sign Premier League loan man

Hull City vice-chairman Tan Kesler has said they are trying to bring back Liam Delap from Manchester City in some capacity this summer.

Hull City had the striker on loan last season and he was a hit with the Championship side.

Delap, 21, scored eight goals in 32 games for the Tigers as they narrowly missed out on a place in the play-offs.

Kesler has told HullLive: “The chairman wants him so badly. If we didn’t have Financial Fair Play (FFP) and EFL regulations he (Ilicali) would have literally invested in him and tried to buy him. You know how he is, he’s (Ilicali) very passionate for football, very passionate for improvement and we like him (Delap) so much.

“At the end of the day, he belongs to Man City and also he probably has his own agenda. We’ve been talking to his agent. I don’t see why not (sign him), but it has to make (financial) sense.

“We have to be able to spend money but also generate money for him. A loan back to us could be an option if Man City doesn’t sell him.”

Hull City want Manchester City man back

Bringing back Delap for next term would be a huge boost for Hull City as they eye another promotion push to the Premier League.

However, he is back at Manchester City now and will be weighing up his options.

He had his injury problems during the last campaign so could do with getting regular game time under his belt once again.

The England youth international is guaranteed a starting spot at the MKM Stadium. Liam Rosenior is no longer the manager though which could throw a spanner in the works.

Delap has been with Manchester City since joining them from Derby County in 2019 and he has played six times for Pep Guardiola’s side, chipping in with a single goal.

He had loan spells at Stoke City and Preston North End before his switch to Hull City but struggled in front of goal for the second tier pair, finding the net on a combined four occasions.

What next for Hull City target?

Delap’s chances of breaking into the first-team at the Etihad Stadium are slim so a departure of some sort is the most likely outcome for him.

It remains to be seen whether Manchester City want to sell him on a permanent basis or are willing to loan him out again.

If they are looking to send him back to the Football League, Hull City would no doubt hope that they are at the front of the queue.
