3 Mika Biereth alternatives Sheffield Wednesday should eye amid battle for Arsenal starlet

Sheffield Wednesday are among the sides keen on Arsenal prospect Mika Biereth this summer as they look to bolster their attacking ranks.

Sheffield Wednesday are keen on Biereth after eyeing him in January but after his stint at Motherwell, he would instead switch to Austria with Sturm Graz.

His loan club are eyeing a permanent deal too, but separate reports have since said a deal looks unlikely. That should offer the Owls hope, though in new links between the Championship club and Biereth it is said that there is competition for his signature.

It means that Danny Rohl and co would be wise to keep their options open.

Here, we put forward three alternative striker targets Sheffield Wednesday should have on their radar…

Tom Cannon – Leicester City

Cannon endured a tough first season with Championship winners Leicester City and while a decision over his immediate future will be made, a drop back down to the second-tier could really benefit him.

If the door opens for him to move on, Sheffield Wednesday should certainly be among those in the chase.

The 21-year-old Irishman previously starred at Preston North End with eight goals in 21 games and a move to Hillsborough could see him recapture his dangerous best on a new loan deal.

Duncan McGuire – Orlando City

Like Biereth, McGuire was targeted by Sheffield Wednesday in January but when a move to Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers fell through, the American striker was forced to return to Orlando City.

A move could be back on the cards this summer though with his deal expiring at the end of the calendar year. It would likely be a permanent deal, so it would need Dejphon Chansiri’s approval.

However, he could become a fantastic asset for the Owls in the short-term and if he can maintain his current trajectory, McGuire is someone who could make the club a healthy profit in the years to come too.

Who is this?

Troy Parrott – Tottenham Hotspur

Last but not least is Spurs striker Troy Parrott, who could benefit from a permanent move this summer.

Loans haven’t worked out for him all that well before but in 31 games for Eredivisie side Exceslior this season, Parrott has managed a thoroughly respectable 14 goals and five assists.

The 22-year-old remains a big talent for the years to come and at a permanent home under a top coach like Danny Rohl, he could come on leaps and bounds at Sheffield Wednesday.
