McKinstry would be a shrewd addition on a free transfer if they were able to get him and would add more competition and depth to their squad.

The ex-Scotland youth international rose up through the academy ranks at Motherwell and was a regular for them at various different levels.

He was then lured down the border by Leeds United in 2019 and went on to play twice for the Whites’ senior team before he was released.

McKinstry’s switch to Queen’s Park has worked out well for him and he resulted in plenty of first-team minutes.

The winger has played 21 games for the Spiders since moving to Glasgow and has scored once.
