Bradford City keen on loan deal for Sunderland defender

Sunderland youngster Oliver Bainbridge is a target for Bradford City ahead of a potential summer loan, according to reporter Alan Nixon.

Sunderland boast an impressive track record when it comes to the production of youth academy players, with many going on to become regulars on Wearside in recent years.

Of the current crop, Anthony Patterson and Dan Neil are among the first-team mainstays. Teenage midfielder Chris Rigg is another starlet who looks destined for the top too.

Another talent tipped for a bright future is defender Oliver Bainbridge, who has been an U18s and U21s stalwart. He’s also made the first-team bench once, that being against QPR in March.

The 18-year-old is said to have had interest from Everton, but reporter Alan Nixon states League Two side Bradford City are also admirers as a potential loan move awaits Bainbridge.

The teenager has played plenty of youth football with Sunderland, so a step up to first-team level could await. Before jumping into the Black Cats’ setup, an EFL loan could be a great way for him to develop further.

Who is this?

The next step for Bainbridge

Sunderland are a club well versed in their development of young players, so you’d back them to make the right call regarding Bainbridge coming into the summer transfer window.

Having played such a sizeable amount of youth football at only 18, it could be that an early senior opportunity presents itself to the youngster. His appearance on the first-team bench in March shows how highly regarded he is at the Stadium of Light.

The Wearside outfit are more than happy to give chances to young players good enough but many benefit from spells away from the club on loan too.

As Bradford City size up a Bainbridge move, he may well be the next to get a shot at catching the eye away from the Championship side.

Next season for the Bantams

From the Bradford City side of things, they’ll be determined to enjoy a fruitful summer transfer window.

It will be Graham Alexander’s first summer in charge at Valley Parade and having shown promising signs during his tenure, the hope will be that he can get the Bantams back into the fight towards the top of the table.

Transfer business will have to be spot on though, and while permanent signings are bound to be on the radar, loans for prospects like Sunderland ace Bainbridge are shrewd way for them to bolster the ranks with talented players.

Ultimately though, the decision will be down to Sunderland and their young star, so time will tell just how the Bantams’ interest develops.
