Powell, 25, has been on the books at Burton Albion since joining them back in 2021. However, his contract expires at the end of next month and although he has been offered fresh terms by the Brewers, he is due to become a free agent as things stand.

In this latest update regarding his situation by journalist O’Rourke on X, Steve Evans is ready to lure him to the New York Stadium to boost his midfield department. He is aiming to get them promoted from the third tier at the first time of asking.

Powell could be seen by Rotherham United as someone to add more competition and depth to their midfield department.

It has been a busy past week or so for the Millers on the transfer front and they have already landed striker Jonson Clarke-Harris, defender Joe Rafferty and full-back Reece James following their exits from Peterborough United, Portsmouth and Sheffield Wednesday respectively.

Powell could be the next through the door and he helped Burton Albion stay up in this past campaign under Martin Paterson.

He rose up through the academy ranks at West Ham and was a regular for the Premier League side at various different youth levels.

The Canning Town-born man went on to play once for the Hammers’ first-team in an EFL Cup clash against Macclesfield Town as they ran out 8-0 winners at the London Stadium.

Powell had a loan spell away in the Football League at Northampton Town to get some experience under his belt.

Burton Albion ace

Burton Albion snapped him up in 2020 and he hasn’t looked back since.

He has become a key player at the Pirelli Stadium and has made 186 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with 26 goals, five of which came last term.

However, his time with the Brewers appears to be coming to an end soon with Rotherham United preparing to pounce.

The Millers finished rock-bottom of the Championship this past season but aren’t feeling sorry for themselves as they continue to bolster their ranks.
