Leeds United among clubs keen on 26-year-old centre-back

Leeds United are among the clubs keen on KAA Gent centre-back Jordan Torunarigha, German reporter Florian Plettenberg has revealed.

Leeds United are yet to confirm what league they’ll be playing in next season but those behind the scenes at Elland Road will have their sights set on potential transfer targets regardless.

It could be a busy summer for the Whites regardless of whether they win this weekend’s play-off final with Southampton or not.

One area Daniel Farke is sure to add to is his backline, and one man rumoured to be on the Leeds United radar is KAA Gent centre-back Jordan Torunarigha.

Writing on X, Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg states Torunarigha could be on the move for between €2.5m and €3m as he enters the last year of his deal following a strong season in Belgium.

The German-born Nigeria international also has admirers in Bundesliga pair Stuttgart and Hoffenheim.

The centre-back situation at Elland Road

The heart of defence is likely to be an area Leeds United strengthen in this summer.

Joe Rodon’s loan from Tottenham Hotspur will come to an end, although the Whites have been frequently linked with a permanent swoop. Club captain and long-serving Scot Liam Cooper is out of contract and amid his more limited minutes, it could be that he moves on.

Pascal Struijk – who has been sidelined for much of this season – remains under contract, as does Charlie Cresswell. Ethan Ampadu is too following his move to the club last summer, but it remains to be seen if he moves back into midfield when more options become available.

There’s also the likes of Max Wober and Diego Llorente out on loan, but it seems likely that their futures lay elsewhere.

Who is this?

A smart move regardless of promotion?

At a reported fee of between €2.5m and €3m, Leeds United may well feel Torunarigha is a realistic target regardless of whether they’re in the Premier League or Championship.

What could make things tricky if Bundesliga sides like Stuttgart and Hoffenheim come calling while the Whites remain in the second-tier. That could make a Germany move more appealing to the 26-year-old.

The pull of Leeds United is clear though, and it’s helped them pull of some eye-catching deals before.

With a summer move potentially awaiting Torunarigha, time will tell if the Whites’ interest develops into anything more serious. For now though, the full focus is on this weekend’s play-off final against Southampton.
