Derby County’s Louie Sibley and departing Barnsley man Jordan Williams have been ‘mentioned’ as potential Rotherham United targets this summer, according to Darren Witcoop on X.

Rotherham United are aiming for an immediate promotion back from League One next season under the guidance of Steve Evans and are looking to bolster their ranks. They have already snapped up prolific striker Jonson Clarke-Harris and experienced defender Joe Rafferty following their exits from Peterborough United and Portsmouth respectively.

The Millers were relegated with a whimper from the Championship in 24th place in the last campaign and are now busy injecting more quality into their ranks over the next few months.

In this latest transfer update regarding the South Yorkshire outfit, reporter Witcoop has claimed on X that Sibley and Williams could be two players on their radar, along with midfielder George Byers and full-back Reece James after they both departed Sheffield Wednesday.

Who is this?

Rotherham United transfer plans

Sibley, 22, sees his contract at Derby County expire at the end of next month and he is due to become a free agent as things stand.

The versatile left-sided player has been offered a new deal by the Rams following their promotion from the third tier under Paul Warne, as detailed on their recent retained list.

He has been on the books at Pride Park for his whole career to date and has made 173 appearances in all competitions to date, chipping in with 20 goals, six of which came last term.

As for Williams, his time at Barnsley is over and he will be weighing up his next move in the game.

The Huddersfield Town academy graduate will officially become a free agent in late June and is available for nothing if Rotherham United want to make a move.

He helped the Tykes reach the play-offs in both of the last two years but they were beaten by Sheffield Wednesday and then Bolton Wanderers.

Williams is now in the hunt for a fresh challenge and would add more competition and depth to the Millers’ defensive department if they were to get him.

What next?

Sibley will be considering his future and needs to respond to Derby County’s offer of an extension.

Williams will see what comes his way over the coming weeks and he looks to land himself a new club.

Rotherham United have made a couple of impressive acquisitions so far and are expected to be up there next season.
