Coventry City edge Rangers to deal for 20-year-old winger

Coventry City have secured a deal to sign Macarthur winger Raphel Borges Rodrigues, as per a report from Australian outlet FTBL.

Coventry City will be playing Championship football again next season after falling short of the play-offs, but the 2023/24 campaign will be one to remember regardless.

The Sky Blues embarked on an impressive rise up the Championship table after a poor start and made it all the way to the FA Cup semi-final.

They got better and better as the season progressed and looking ahead to next season, fans will be excited. Now, it seems as though a new addition is on the way in.

Coventry City were linked with winger Raphael Borges Rodrigues alongside Rangers and Swindon Town last month and Australian news outlet FTBL states that a deal for him to join the Sky Blues is done.

The 20-year-old winger, who plays for A-League side Macarthur will join on a ‘multi-year deal’ for an undisclosed fee having been eyed by ‘several’ other clubs.

Who is this?

One to watch?

It remains to be seen just when Borges Rodrigues is confirmed as a Coventry City player but he looks to be a promising addition to the ranks at the CBS Arena. The 20-year-old was born in Maastricht, Holland but represents Australia’s U23s. He’s also eligible for Brazil.

He primarily plays as a left-winger but can operate anywhere across the front three. Borges Rodrigues notched six goals and two assists in 33 games this season.

It looks as though the best years of his career lay ahead of him and Coventry will be hoping they’ve pulled off an impressive coup by bringing him in before his stock rises too high.

Next season at Coventry City

After falling short of the top six this season, the play-offs will be the primary aim for Coventry City next season.

Of course, time will tell just what the summer has in store, but this current group is a vastly talented one and with some more impressive signings, Mark Robins will be hoping to reach new heights.

Borges Rodrigues looks set to kick start their summer business but the Sky Blues will not be looking to stop there as they grow stronger and stronger year on year.

Key assets like Ben Sheaf could draw admiring glances but big sales of Viktor Gyokeres and Gustavo Hamer last summer means the club are in a great position financially. As such, they’ll be looking to stand firm and retain their key men.
