League Two clubs keen on 20-year-old ahead of Charlton Athletic exit

Charlton Athletic youngster Jason Adigun has interest from a number of clubs as his deal nears expiry, as per All Nigeria Soccer.

Charlton Athletic are yet to publicly confirm the fates of their academy hopefuls, but decisions will be made at The Valley over which youngsters will stay on and who will depart.

The Addicks have seen a whole host of top prospects come through their ranks over the years and there’s no doubt some more exciting talents waiting to make their breakthrough in South London.

While some go from the academy straight up to the first-team, others test themselves out on loan before making the step up in the EFL.

Amongst them is 20-year-old midfielder Jason Adigun, and it seems he’s caught the eye in doing so.

As per a report from All Nigeria Soccer, the Charlton Athletic talent has drawn interest from Gillingham, Cheltenham Town, Harrogate Town and Southend United amid an impressive stint in the National League South with Welling United.

The report says Adigun is set to move away from The Valley on a free transfer in a bid to find more first-team opportunities away from the Addicks. That combined with a return of two goals and eight assists in 16 matches for Welling has drawn admiring glances.

Who is this?

A loss for the Addicks?

Adigun might not have made his senior debut for Charlton Athletic yet but having impressed in his first senior loan over the second half of the season, seeing him move on may sting a bit.

They may have hoped that he could return and kick on at The Valley with a fruitful pre-season, but it seems his sights are set on an immediate future away from the club.

Rest assured, there are likely plenty of other prospects ready and waiting for a chance and Adigun’s departure may well pave the way for them to catch the eye if he is to move on.

Seeing him thrive with another EFL side might see his exit come back to bite the Addicks. Ultimately though, the academy aims to give players a pathway into the senior game and set them up well for strong careers regardless of whether they’re in Charlton colours or not.

A busy summer awaits

Charlton Athletic are in for an important summer as Nathan Jones leads his first transfer window.

They have made signings under his watch with free transfer moves made but the coming months give him a real chance to shape the squad to his liking. That will likely mean plenty more players make way for new additions.

A number of first-team players are already moving on at the end of their contracts so Jones and co are in for a demanding few months as they gear up for the 2024/25 season.
