West Brom defender drawing permanent League One transfer interest

West Brom full-back Zac Ashworth is wanted by Bolton Wanderers on a permanent basis, reporter Alan Nixon has said on his Patreon.

West Brom sanctioned a new loan for 21-year-old full-back Ashworth last summer, with Bolton Wanderers bringing him in for duration of the season.

Game time wasn’t particularly regular for him with the Trotters though. Ashworth played 23 times over the entire season, though he managed a respectable three goals and three assists.

Ashworth was not involved in the matchday squad for any of Wanderers’ three play-off games either.

However, despite the limited action he has found with Bolton Wanderers, reporter Alan Nixon has said on his Patreon that the League One side are keen to keep Ashworth on a permanent basis this summer.

Bolton will turn their attentions to planning for next season and shaping their squad after the play-off heartbreak. It seems Ashworth is among those in the thinking as Evatt looks to make his loan deal into a permanent one.

Who is this?

A future away from The Hawthorns?

Ashworth will enter the final 12 months of his contract with West Brom this summer, so his future could be brought into question in the coming months.

The Baggies may decide to take the chance to cash in on the young academy graduate rather than risk losing him for nothing next summer, so perhaps Bolton Wanderers will haver a chance of striking a deal.

Ashworth has played six times for the West Brom first-team to date and previously spent a spell at Burton Albion.

He’s now got a good amount of senior experience and he’ll be hopeful of finding more first-team football next season as he turns 22 in September.

Staying at Bolton Wanderers

Ashworth looks like a promising player but he hasn’t found much game time at Bolton Wanderers. That will surely be in his thinking if the League One side try to keep a hold of him this summer.

That said though, he’s a good fit for Evatt’s system and having spent a season under their watch, they mayb feel he’s better equipped for increased minutes next time around.

There will also be more motivation to increase his game timi if he’s their player for good.

Time will tell just what comes of the situation though with West Brom yet to decide what they’ll do with Ashworth once he’s back from his loan.
