Salford City keen on League One man after Barrow loan

Salford City are keen on Burton Albion striker Cole Stockton following his loan spell at Barrow, according to a report by Alan Nixon on Patreon.

Salford City are interested in luring the attacker to the Peninsula Stadium this summer as they prepare for their first full season under the guidance of former MK Dons and Oxford United boss Karl Robinson. They finished down in a disappointing 20th position in the last campaign.

Stockton, 30, remains under contract at Burton Albion for next term but his future is up in the air. The Brewers managed to stay up on the final day and are gearing up for another year in League One under Martin Paterson.

In this latest update regarding the forward’s future with his current club, journalist Nixon has claimed on his Patreon page that the Ammies want to lure him back to the North West to bolster their attacking ranks.

Who is this?

Salford City want Burton Albion striker

Stockton is a proven goal scorer in the Football League and would be an eye-catching addition by Salford City if they were able to get him.

The ex-Tranmere Rovers, Carlisle United and Wrexham man joined Morecambe in 2019 and was prolific during his time at the Mazuma Stadium.

He scored 59 goals in 178 matches in all competitions for the Shrimps and helped them gain promotion from League Two against the odds in 2021.

The Merseyside-born man adapted well to the step up to the third tier and landed a switch to Burton Albion after Morecambe eventually got relegated.

However, his time with the Brewers hasn’t quite gone to plan and he scored only once for them in 16 outings during the first-half of last season.

Stockton was then shipped out on loan to Barrow in January and managed to find his shooting boots once again for the Bluebirds, finding the net on seven occasions.

What next for Burton Albion man?

It remains to be seen whether he will be staying put at Burton Albion or moving away again.

It is yet to be known what Barrow could potentially try and land him permanently over the next couple of months.

A switch to Salford City would be closer to home for Stockton and he would link up with a team who have ambitious plans to rise up the leagues under still after a stale past couple of years in the bottom tier.
