Hartlepool United target becomes free agent after parting ways with EFL side

Hartlepool United-linked Peter Jameson has parted ways with Harrogate Town, as detailed in a report by the Harrogate Advertiser.

Harrogate Town have decided not to extend his contract following the end of the season and he will now become a free agent. He spent time on loan at Hartlepool United in the last campaign in the National League.

Jameson, 31, will officially see his deal at Wetherby Road come to an end at the end of next month and will have to weigh up his next move in the game as a free agent. The Hartlepool Mail reported last week that the Pools ‘could’ target a permanent swoop for him this summer as they prepare for another year in the fifth tier.

As per the Harrogate Advertiser, the goalkeeper is leaving the Sulphurites and is due to become available for nothing very soon. He has been with the Yorkshire club since 2022.

The door has now swung open for Hartlepool United to lure Jameson back to the North East permanently if they want to.

They are preparing for life under new boss Darren Sarll after turning to the former Stevenage man late last month.

Harrogate Town landed Jameson just over two years ago to bolster their goalkeeping department.

He went on to play 31 matches for them in all competitions but fell out of favour in this past campaign.

The stopper was shipped out on loan when the Pools came calling in July last year following their relegation from League Two.

Jameson then played 21 matches during his time at Victoria Park before heading back to his parent club.

The former Middlesbrough academy man had stints at Darlington, Blyth Spartans and York City before joining Simon Weaver’s side.

What next for Harrogate Town and Jameson?

Hartlepool United have a decision to make as to whether to bring him back for next term or let him join someone else.

His exit from Harrogate Town frees up space and funds in their ranks as they look to bring in some new faces over the coming months.

Weaver’s men have been in the Football League now since 2020 and have done well to stay there for four years.

They finished 13th in this past season and will be looking to build on that. The Sulphurites were seven points short of the play-offs in the end.
