Bolton Wanderers target free transfer move for Premier League shot-stopper

Bolton Wanderers are interested in signing Louie Moulden at the end of his Wolves contract, reporter Alan Nixon has said on his Patreon.

Bolton Wanderers will be playing League One football once again next season after falling short in the play-off final against Oxford United on Saturday afternoon.

The disappointment will be immeasurable for Ian Evatt and his squad, but they now have no choice but to turn their focus to next season as they continue their bid to rise back through the leagues.

Now, in the wake of their defeat, the Trotters have been linked with a fresh name.

Writing on his Patreon, reporter Alan Nixon states that Bolton Wanderers are keen on adding 22-year-old goalkeeper Louie Moulden to their ranks this summer.

Moulden, who has been on loan with Rochdale and Northampton Town this campaign, sees his deal with Wolves expire this summer. He’s set to move on from Molineux and Wanderers are interested in bringing him in as cover and competition for no.1 Nathan Baxter, it is said.

Who is this?

A feasible deal?

As Bolton Wanderers turn attentions to 2024/25, early transfer targets will be in mind.

Now that the league they’ll be in is confirmed too, they’ll be able to zero in on some possible additions.

It looks as though Moulden is a feasible signing as well. If he does depart Wolves as expected, Evatt’s side could be a realistic option as he was born in Bolton. Having spent the second half of this season on loan at Northampton Town too, a stay at League One level seems feasible.

As a young goalkeeper on a free transfer, he should be a solid option as a backup for Baxter. It would be a low-risk signing for the Trotters and barring strong rival interest, it’s one they should fancy their chances of getting over the line.

Getting over the play-off disappointment

The emotions of Saturday’s defeat to Oxford United are still going to be pretty raw for Bolton Wanderers.

They’ll take time to rest and recover after a gruelling campaign before looking for vengeance next time around. After two failed play-off campaigns in successive seasons, they’ll be determined to avoid all doubt and finish in the automatic promotion places next time around.

The failure to go up may well bring about some changes to the playing squad, paving the way for new faces like Moulden to come in.

Time will tell just how busy this summer is, but a fruitful window will help Bolton leave the play-off final disappointment in the past.
