3 managers Norwich City must eye as David Wagner departs after Leeds United drubbing

Norwich City were thrashed in their play-off semi-final second leg against Leeds United on Thursday night, and David Wagner looks set to lose his job.

Norwich City were in a good position going into the second leg having played out a 0-0 draw in the opening tie at Carrow Road.

However, the Canaries were simply blown away by Leeds United. An electric start from the Whites had them 3-0 up and half-time and Wagner’s side were never able to recover, marking a night to forget.

As such, it has been widely reported that Wagner has now been sacked as manager of Norwich City.

It leaves the club in need of a replacement, and here, we pick out three managers they must target…

Steve Cooper

Cooper is a manager who should be in the reckoning for any number of vacant posts this summer. His work at Nottingham Forest was remarkable, leading them from the lower reaches of the Championship all the way to the Premier League.

He was able to keep them there too, before being sacked earlier this season.

With Norwich City in need of a makeover and revival after this campaign’s disappointment, someone like Cooper could lead that.

Liam Rosenior

Rosenior will have wide interest following his shock Hull City sacking and it would not be a surprise at all if the Canaries quickly turned their eyes to his services as Wagner departs.

He had the Tigers in the fight for the play-offs this season having taken over the club further down the Championship table.

Rosenior is a bright young coach with an exciting future in the dugout and Norwich City must consider a move for him as they make a managerial change.

Enrico Maassen

Last but not least is one that fits in with the club’s previous managerial recruitment style.

Maassen is out of work after leaving FC Augsburg in October but he previously held roles in Borussia Dortmund’s coaching setup. Having found success in the lower leagues of Germany, he earned a big step up with Augsburg.

Following a challenging time there, a move to a club like Norwich City could be ideal for him and given their penchant for ex-Dortmund youth coaches, he could be on the radar of the club.
