McGinty, 24, is currently out on loan at Sligo Rovers in the League of Ireland and his long-term situation with his parent club is up in the air right now. He left on a temporary basis in the January transfer window.

Regarding his plans for when he returns, he has said, as per a report by the Irish Independent: “I don’t actually know. I was chatting to a few of the lads, I don’t know if it has any bearing on me. I’m just very excited for the team and hopefully they can get the job done.

“I’m taking it a game at a time, I want to give it my all. That’s a decision that has to be made in the future. We’ll assess when the time comes to assess.”

Oxford United goalkeeping situation

Oxford United will have to make a decision regarding McGinty depending on what league they find themselves in after this Saturday.

The former Republic of Ireland youth international is under contract with Des Buckingham’s side until June 2025 meaning he still has over 12 months left on his deal.

He moved over to England in 2022 from Sligo Rovers and has since made 10 appearances for the U’s in all competitions.

The Glasgow-born man has been used as back-up since his switch to the Football League, hence why he was given the green light to move back to The Showgrounds to get some game time this past winter.

McGinty was on the books at Celtic and Hibernian in Scotland before his transfer to Sligo in 2017. He then went on to play 97 matches for Rovers before Oxford United came calling.

Buckingham’s current number one is Chelsea loanee Jamie Cumming with Simon Eastwood as his number two.

Cumming is due to return to Stamford Bridge when his loan expires meaning there could be a place for McGinty to fill.

Bolton Wanderers clash

Oxford United will be in confident mood as they prepare to face Bolton Wanderers in the capital.

The Trotters have experience of winning at Wembley though after beating Plymouth Argyle in the EFL Trophy final last year.

The U’s will have to be on top of their game and make sure the occasion doesn’t get the better of them in London.
