Championship transfer target available for nothing after Sheffield United release

Sheffield United will play the last game of their Premier League season this weekend.

They face Tottenham Hotspur at Bramall Lane as a dismal campaign comes to a close. With 16 points to their name, 101 goals conceded and only three wins, it’s certainly been a year to forget for the Blades.

As a result, a busy summer transfer window will be needed as they bid to rebuild and go again next time around. There will be player sales, but a handful of the squad will also be moving on at the end of their contracts.

Now, it has been confirmed that left-back Max Lowe is among them.

As announced on the club’s official website, Sheffield United stated Lowe will be leaving upon the expiry of his deal alongside long-serving stars Chris Basham, Oliver Norwood, George Baldock and goalkeeper Wes Foderingham.

Lowe’s release comes amid rumours of early interest from the Championship. His exit means he’ll be available for nothing come the start of the summer transfer window.

Who is this?

Interests piqued…

Lowe’s availability has now been confirmed and those keen on the Sheffield United man will now be weighing up whether they want to act fast and strike an agreement to bring him in this summer.

Nothing is preventing clubs from moving to secure verbal agreements with the former Derby County man and given the Championship interest in his services, those keen would be wise to move sooner rather than later.

The Premier League season isn’t done yet but with his fate confirmed, Lowe can swiftly turn his attention to his plans for the new campaign. Perhaps that will come after some time is taken to rest though following a gruelling season for all at Sheffield United.

A shrewd signing

Time will tell just where Lowe is playing his football next season but the departing Sheffield United man will be a smart addition for whoever brings him in this summer.

While the 27-year-old has had injury problems, he’s a versatile left-sided defender with good experience at Championship level. His time in the Premier League will have done no harm either.

Lowe mainly plays as a full-back but is comfortable in a more attacking role as a wing-back too. He has also filled in as a left-sided centre-back in a back three too, so he’d provide plenty of versatility and tactical flexibility for whoever signs him.
