Southampton ace in talks with Premier League side, report claims

Southampton attacker Che Adams is in advanced talks over a move to Wolves, according to a report by FootballTransfers.

Southampton could lose the striker this summer with his contract expiring at the end of next month. He is yet to put pen-to-paper on an extension with the Saints and is due to become a free agent as things stand.

Adams, 27, has been on the books of his current club since joining them in 2019 and has since made 190 appearances for them in all competitions, chipping in with 49 goals. He has found the net on 18 occasions this season to help Russell Martin’s side reach the play-offs.

In this latest update regarding his situation by FootballTransfers, the player is in discussions with Wolves over a potential switch to Molineux ahead of the next campaign. Gary O’Neil’s men are currently sat in 13th position in the Premier League table.

Losing Adams for nothing would be a blow for Southampton and their chances of keeping hold of him will depend on what league they are in next term.

They drew their play-off semi-final first leg clash 0-0 away at West Brom and take on the Baggies on Thursday night in the second leg as they look to reach the final at Wembley against either Leeds United or Norwich City.

It appears likely that Adams will be playing in the top flight once again next term either way.

The forward has been a decent servant to the Saints and they have well to retain his services since their relegation 12 months ago.

He made his name at Sheffield United and spent two years on the books at Bramall Lane from 2014 to 2016, firing 15 goals in 55 games whilst they were in League One.

The Scotland international, who has 29 caps under his belt so far in his career, then linked up with Birmingham City and was a hit during his three seasons with the Blues, chipping in with 38 goals in 123 outings.

Adams may well now be heading back to the Midlands in a matter of months with Wolves linked with a swoop.

What next for Southampton?

Southampton’s immediate focus will be on getting past West Brom later this week.

It is no surprise to see Wolves reportedly keen on landing Adams. However, his situation should be sorted once the Saints know what league they will be playing in.
