Leeds United ‘expected’ to release 2020 signing next month, report suggests

Leeds United are ‘expected’ to cut ties with Cody Drameh when his contract expires this summer, as detailed in a report by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Leeds United are poised to release the right wing-back at the end of next month and he will subsequently become a free agent. He has spent this season on loan at Birmingham City and couldn’t prevent the Midlands outfit from being relegated to League One.

Drameh, 22, made 30 appearances in all competitions for the Blues, 28 of which came in the league, but saw his minutes dry up by the end of his time at St Andrew’s under Gary Rowett. He will have a big decision to make on his future over the next couple of months.

As per the Yorkshire Evening Post, the Whites are not likely to offer him an extension ahead of the next campaign. It remains to be seen what league Daniel Farke’s side will be in as they prepare for their play-off semi-final clashes against Norwich City.

Who is this?

Leeds United man poised to leave

Drameh joined Leeds United back in 2020 having previously been at Fulham and he has since played 10 first-team matches for the Yorkshire outfit.

He was given the green light to head out the exit door on loan for the first time when Cardiff City came calling in 2021 and he made 22 outings for the Bluebirds to boost his development before heading back to his parent club.

The ex-England youth international then linked up with Luton Town in January 2022 and helped the Hatters gain promotion to the Premier League during his stint at Kenilworth Road under Rob Edwards. He played in their play-off final win over Coventry City at Wembley.

Birmingham City brought him in on a temporary basis last summer in an eye-catching deal. However, it has been a disastrous past 10 months or so for them and they now find themselves in the third tier.

What next for Leeds United wing-back?

Drameh is still young and will have learned a lot from his most recent loan spell away from Leeds United.

His chances of breaking into the Whites’ team are slim, hence why they are expected to let him depart.

It is a shame for them that they won’t be able to pick up a transfer fee for him though and he will be departing for nothing as things stand.

A return to Birmingham City is very unlikely now they have gone down. However, he would be a useful addition for another second tier team.
