Ipswich Town were linked with an ambitious move for Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah on Tuesday.

Ipswich Town are heading for the Premier League and they’ll be hopeful of making some statement signings as they gear up for their long-awaited return to top-flight football.

A new striker or two may well be on the radar, and reports claimed earlier this week that the Tractor Boys were sizing up an ambitious raid on Arsenal for striker Eddie Nketiah.

Perhaps not completely out of the realms of possibility, but Nketiah would be a costly signing in terms of both fee and wages. And, if the door does open for him to move on, there would be strong competition for him.

For that reason, it might be sensible for Ipswich Town to keep other options in mind. Here, we put forward three alternative options the club should eye as Nketiah alternatives…

Che Adams – Southampton

Adams sees his contract at Southampton expire this summer so expect a number of Premier League clubs to be eyeing moves for him. He may move on regardless of how their season ends but if the Saints fall short in the play-offs, a move seems inevitable.

The Scot has been a danger in the top-flight before and that experience at the level will be of great value to Ipswich Town.

As a potential free transfer, Town can’t really go wrong if a move for Adams.

Who is this?

Lukas Nmecha – VfL Wolfsburg

Nmecha has had an injury-hit campaign in Germany and as a result, his stock has dropped. As he enters the final year of his Wolfsburg deal, Ipswich Town should capitalise on that with a summer move.

The former Manchester City prospect is familiar with the England game and he has proven himself in Europe too. He notched 21 goals in 41 games at Anderlecht and has a respectable 16 goals in 65 at Bundesliga level with Wolfsburg.

Nmecha is a strong presence at the top of the pitch so would fit Kieran McKenna’s system well. He has also played out wide or as a second striker before too.

Kevin Denkey – Cercle Brugge

Another option worth considering if Ipswich Town want to cast their net a bit wider is Kevin Denkey.

The striker has enjoyed another prolific season in Belgian football, managing 27 goals in 36 games for Cercle Brugge. He’s ready to be tested at a higher level and it could be that he makes that move this summer.

The 23-year-old is another strong striker but as shown by 50 goals in 121 games, he’s a natural goalscorer too.
