Rotherham United defender Lee Peltier has said he will take time to ‘decide’ his next move as he weighs up his future.

Rotherham United have a decision to make regarding whether to offer the defender a contract extension this summer following their relegation from the Championship.

Peltier, 37, sees his current deal expire at the end of next month and he is due to become a free agent as things stand.

He is currently considering his options and has had this to say about his situation, as per a report by the Rotherham Advertiser: “I just need to have a good mental reset. It’s been a tough season so it will be nice to get away and spend some time with my family and just chill out for a bit. Then we’ll decide what we’re going to do.

“Listen, I wouldn’t say ‘no’ to any sort of contract that is offered to me – it would be stupid of me to do that – but I need to have a break mentally and physically and see where I’m at.”

The Millers snapped him up back in 2022 and he has since made 64 appearances in all competitions for the Yorkshire outfit, 28 of which came in this past campaign.

He enjoyed a lot of game time last term despite his age but he couldn’t prevent Rotherham United from relegation. They finished bottom and were joined in the bottom three by Huddersfield Town and Birmingham City.

Peltier rose up through the academy ranks of local side Liverpool and represented the Reds at various youth levels before going on to play four times for their first-team as a youngster.

He left Anfield in 2007 on a permanent basis after a loan spell at Hull City to get some experience and he has since had stints at Yeovil Town, Huddersfield Town, Leicester City, Leeds United, Nottingham Forest, Cardiff City, West Brom and Middlesbrough.

Big summer ahead at Rotherham United

Rotherham United have a big summer ahead as they look to bounce back with promotion at the first time of asking next year.

They have brought back Steve Evans from Stevenage and he knows what he is doing in League One.

The Millers’ new boss will be eager to put his own stamp on the squad with some additions over the next couple of months.

Rotherham United are yet to publish their retained list and have a few players who are due to become free agents very soon, as well as Peltier.
