Scouts watch on as L1 star eyed by Leeds United, Sunderland, Southampton scores again

Barnsley starlet Fabio Jalo is still in the early years of his career but he’s already drawn interest from the likes of Leeds United, Sunderland and Southampton.

Leeds United and Sunderland were both linked with Barnsley starlet Jalo ahead of the January window. The same report revealed top-flight trio Brighton, Everton and Fulham are also admirers.

Southampton were said to have failed with a bid for the Portuguese prospect in a separate report.

The persisting interest in the 18-year-old forward speaks volumes of his potential. While injury has kept him out for a bit this season, Jalo has continued to star at youth level for the Tykes, also taking his senior appearance total to 27.

His most recent outing came in the 2-2 draw against Reading at the weekend, and Jalo was on hand to net the equaliser off the bench. And, in the wake of his maiden league goal, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano shared that a host of clubs continue to scout the Barnsley teenager.

One not to miss out on

Jalo is still very much in the formative years of his career. He’s tied down to a long-term contract until the summer of 2027 at Barnsley too, with a 12-month extension option included.

However, it’s becoming abundantly clear that the former Benfica prospect is a starlet not to be missed out on. The future is bright for Jalo, and whoever signs him will have a real talent on their hands.

Bids from Southampton and Lecce have come and been knocked back. Previous admirers Leeds United and Sunderland would be foolish not to try and pry Jalo away from the Tykes, especially given their penchant for recruiting and developing young players.

Who is this?

Interesting won’t be fading any time soon. If anything, it’s only going to grow further.

Those keen would be wise to move sooner rather than later, else they could be left kicking themselves if Jalo moves elsewhere and maximises his sky-high potential for another club.
