Leeds United have been quoted with holding an interest in Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson, but Daniel Farke’s men face stiff competition for his signature.

Leeds United and Leicester City are among the clubs interested in Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson, journalist David Lynch has reported for This Is Anfield.

Leeds United and Sunderland face one another in the Championship tonight. Ahead of the game, the Whites have been linked with one of the Black Cats’ standout players in the form of ‘keeper Patterson.

Patterson has made 42 appearances for the Black Cats this season, taking his total tally up to 119 for his boyhood club ahead of facing Daniel Farke’s side at Elland Road this evening.

A series of strong performances, not to mention his 11 clean sheets, have caught the eye this campaign and a move away from the Stadium of Light could now be on the cards in the summer.

As reported by journalist David Lynch for This is Anfield, Leeds United are interested in the 23-year-old shot-stopper alongside Leicester City and Premier League giants Liverpool and Arsenal. Celtic have also reportedly watched the young Englishman.

The Sunderland academy graduate only signed a new long-term deal last year, keeping him under contract until 2028. However, Lynch reports that a bid in the region of £10m-£15m could tempt the Black Cats into selling their number one.

Having once looked like a contender for a play-off spot this season, Sunderland quickly fell out of contention and now sit 13th in the table with just five games left to play. Should the opportunity arise, Patterson may feel the time is right to take his game to the next level.

A signal of Leeds’ ambition

Leeds United already have a young shot stopper of their own who has been in fine form this term. 24-year-old Frenchman Illan Meslier has kept 18 clean sheets across 41 appearances in all competitions, keeping Karl Darlow and Kristoffer Klaesson out the side.

To bring another up and coming goalkeeper into the fold, and one as promising as Patterson, would provide healthy competition.

There is good reason behind Liverpool and Arsenal’s interest in the England U21 international, so if Leeds were to beat the big guns to his signing then it would be a clear statement of intent should they win promotion.

The offer Premier League football could tempt the Sunderland man into a move. If they are to pull it off then it could be a truly excellent addition for both the present and for years to come.
