Birmingham City monitoring centre-back’s progress, could be first summer signing

Birmingham City are keeping tabs on Queen’s Park defender Darryl Carrick, according to a report by TEAMtalk.

Birmingham City are interested in luring the centre-back down the border to England this summer.

Carrick is on the fringes of Queen’s Park first-team in the Scottish Championship.

According to TEAMtalk, he has emerged on the radar of various English and Scottish clubs and ‘could’ be the Blues’ first signing of the next transfer window.

Birmingham could see Carrick as someone to bolster their defensive department down the line.

He is being tipped for a bright future in the game and Queen’s Park could face a battle to keep hold of him amid interest from elsewhere.

Carrick could be seen as a long-term option for the Blues and someone who would initially bolster their development side with a view to breaking into their senior team.

Birmingham are currently fighting for their lives in the Championship and are looking to avoid relegation to League One.

It will be hard for them to plan their transfer business for this summer at this stage with it unclear what league they will be in.

Gary Rowett has been brought back to St Andrews in an last-ditch attempt to try and keep them up.

He lost his first game 2-1 away at QPR but his side bounced back with a crucial 1-0 win at home to Preston North End on Monday. Fulham loan man Jay Stansfield scored the winner.

They are now sat in 20th place in the table and are two points above the drop zone with six games left to play. Next up is an away trip to automatic promotion chasing Leicester City.

In the meantime, Birmingham are being linked with Carrick as a potential acquisition for later this year.
