‘We need more quality’ – Leyton Orient boss Richie Wellens wants reinforcements this summer

Leyton Orient boss Richie Wellens has said they need more ‘quality’ in their squad for next season.

Leyton Orient’s manager wants to bring in some more reinforcements in the summer.

The O’s are currently sat in 10th place in the League One table and are nine points off the play-offs with five fixtures left to play.

Wellens has said, as per an interview with the official club website: “There’s a lot of players who are out of contract. A lot of them at the moment are 50/50, 60/40. We need more quality in the squad. We’ve squeezed every single once out of these players.

“I’m tired, I think I’ve done a good job but you can only squeeze so much. The injuries are frightening.”

He added: “I’m frustrated because I think we had a chance of a top six finish this season. The league isn’t great this year. I’m absolutely gutted we’ve fallen short.”

Leyton Orient boss wants more quality

Leyton Orient have had a decent campaign considering they were only promoted from League Two last year.

Wellens has done a great job with the London club and deserves to be backed with some additions in the next window.

The O’s chances of making the top six have all but faded away now and they will be keen to end this term on a high.

As their manager alluded to, they have a lot of players who are in the final couple of months of their contracts. Ruel Sotiriou, Tom James, Rob Hunt and Jack Simpson are four who are due to become free agents in late June.

Leyton Orient have been unlucky with injuries as well over recent times with the likes of Theo Archibald, Dan Happe and Darren Pratley all sidelined which isn’t ideal.

They could do with more competition and depth in their ranks for next season to ensure that they can have another push for promotion.

The O’s lost 2-1 at home to Peterborough United yesterday and have now lost two on the spin.

They have the chance to bounce back this weekend as they take on Cheltenham Town at Brisbane Road. Their upcoming opponents are 22nd and two points from safety.
