Sheffield Wednesday expected to let midfielder leave this summer, report claims

Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Jay Glover is ‘believed’ to be one of a few players who will move on this summer, as detailed in a report by The Star.

Sheffield Wednesday are currently fighting for their Championship status and are inside the relegation zone.

Glover, 20, has been on the books at Hillsborough for his whole career to date.

However, in this latest update regarding his future by The Star, he is expected to leave at the end of this season.

Sheffield Wednesday contract latest

Glover’s contract at Sheffield Wednesday expires in late June and he is due to become a free agent as things stand.

The youngster has risen up through the academy ranks of the South Yorkshire outfit and has been a regular for them at various youth levels over the years.

He signed his first professional deal back in 2021 and that was extended by 12 months last year.

Glover made his first-team debut for the Owls in a Carabao Cup clash against Rochdale in 2022 and has since played twice more.

He has also had loan spells away from his current club in non-league at Belper Town, Gainsborough Trinity and Spennymoor Town to get some experience under his belt.

His chances of breaking into Sheffield Wednesday’s starting XI in the next campaign are slim, regardless of what league they are in, and leaving for a new permanent would help him lay down some roots somewhere and get some regular game time.

The Owls lost 2-0 away at Middlesbrough yesterday and are two points from safety. Next up for Danny Rohl’s men is an away trip to QPR this weekend.
