Portsmouth’s January signing expected to miss Derby County clash

Portsmouth boss John Mousinho has said Callum Lang is expected to miss this evening’s clash.

Portsmouth are back in League One action with a home match against Derby County.

Lang, 25, is poised to sit out but could be back in a couple of weeks for the away trip to Bolton Wanderers.

Mousinho has provided this update, as per the official club website: “We’re looking more towards the Bolton fixture for Callum Lang because it’s going a bit slower than we initially hoped.

Lang’s absence is a blow for Portsmouth and he has been a hit since joining them in the January transfer window from fellow third tier club Wigan Athletic.

He has provided more competition and depth to their attacking department and has hit the ground running immediately at Fratton Park.

The Liverpudlian has made eight appearances in all competitions for Mousinho’s men and has scored four goals.

Prior to his move down south, Lang rose up through the academy ranks at Wigan after a brief spell at Liverpool.

He went on to become a key player at the DW Stadium and scored 31 goals in 143 matches for the Latics, as well as having loan spells away from the North West outfit at Morecambe, Oldham Athletic, Shrewsbury Town and Motherwell to get some experience under his belt.

Lang penned a two-and-a-half year deal with Portsmouth earlier this winter, with the club holding an option to extend his stay by a further 12 months on top of that.

Mousinho’s men are top of the table as they eye promotion to the Championship. They are five points clear of their upcoming opponents Derby County with a game in hand.
