‘If I’m honest’ – Stockport County boss shares update on when Aston Villa loan man Louie Barry will return

Stockport County boss Dave Challinor says they will be guided by Aston Villa before throwing Louie Barry back into the team.

Stockport County will be welcoming the attacker back to full contact training this week.

Barry, 20, has been out of action over recent months for the League Two side due to injury.

Challinor has provided this update on his condition, as per an interview with the official YouTube channel: “It is out of our control a little bit, if I’m honest. We’ll speak to them (Aston Villa) this week.

“The plan was for him to be involved against Colchester (9th April). We’d hope we can try and bring that forward to Sutton (6th April) but that is out of our control. We’ll be totally guided by them.

“Nobody would ever put him at risk. He is, as you would expect, really keen to get back involved.”

Getting Barry back will be a massive boost for Stockport as they close in on promotion to League One.

He joined the North West club on a temporary basis from Aston Villa last summer and impressed before he was sidelined.

The ex-England youth international has scored nine goals in 18 matches in all competitions for the Hatters this season.

Barry is due to return to Villa Park at the end of the campaign so will be itching to return to the pitch as soon as he can to help Challinor’s side get over the line.

The former West Brom and Barcelona man has been on the books of his parent club since joining them in 2020. He has since played once for the first-team of the Premier League outfit.

He has also been loaned out to the likes of Ipswich Town, Swindon Town, MK Dons and Salford City in the past to get some experience.

Stockport won 1-0 at home to AFC Wimbledon yesterday with Odin Bailey scoring a late winner. They are back in action this weekend away at Sutton United before a trip to Colchester United next Tuesday, with Barry pushing to play a part.

They could be tricky matches as both of their upcoming opponents are fighting for their lives.

The Hatters will be in confident mood though and are sat top of the table above Mansfield Town and Wrexham by four points. They have six fixtures left to play.
