Baxter’s return will be a boost for Bolton and will give their manager a decision to make regarding who to put between the sticks. Joel Coleman has been covering for him over recent times.

The Trotters signed the London-born man last summer following the end of James Trafford’s loan spell.

He penned a contract at the Toughsheet Community Stadium until 2025 and has since made 35 appearances in all competitions, keeping 15 clean sheets.

Baxter rose up through the academy ranks at Chelsea and was a regular for the Premier League side at various youth levels but never played for their first-team.

Instead, he had temporary stints away from Stamford Bridge at Metropolitan Police, Solihull Moors, Woking, Yeovil Town, Ross County, Accrington Stanley and Hull City to get experience under his belt.

He cut ties with Chelsea when his contract expired last June and was subsequently snapped up by Bolton on a free transfer.

The ‘keeper has been a decent addition for the Trotters and will be itching to get back on the pitch and help in their promotion push.

Evatt’s men won 5-2 at home to Reading yesterday and are now three points behind 2nd place Derby County. The Rams face table toppers Portsmouth away tonight.
