‘Back to square one’ – QPR loan man outlines stance on future

QPR loanee Isaac Hayden has said he would ‘love’ to join them permanently from Newcastle United this summer.

QPR landed the midfielder on a temporary basis during the January transfer window.

Hayden, 29, has since slotted in nicely into Marti Cifuentes’ side in the Championship.

He has told The Sun: “I had to take a pay-cut to go to QPR, which I was happy to do for the last few months of the season, to get games.

“But it’ll be back to square one in the summer but hopefully I can help keep QPR up and would love to stay here if possible.”

Hayden is due to return to Newcastle at the end of his loan deal and his contract with his parent club expires in 2026.

However, he has fallen down the pecking order in the North East and a permanent exit in the next transfer window would suit all parties involved.

He has played 11 times for QPR since his winter switch and has made a positive impression.

The ex-England youth international gives them more competition and depth in the middle of the park and injects experience into their ranks.

Hayden rose up through the ranks at Arsenal and played twice for their first-team before Newcastle snapped him up in 2016 following a loan spell at Hull City.

He has since made 171 appearances for the Toon Army in all competitions, chipping in with seven goals.

The Chelmsford-born man has seen his game time dry up under Eddie Howe over recent campaigns though and was loaned out to Norwich City and Standard Liege before rocking up at QPR.

Hayden seems to be enjoying his football with the Hoops and signing him long-term would be a big statement of intent.

In the meantime, the Hoops’ push for survival in the second tier goes on. They won 1-0 away at Swansea City yesterday and are back in action this weekend against Sheffield Wednesday.
