The72’s writers offer their Rotherham United vs Millwall prediction ahead of the Championship clash on Monday afternoon.

Rotherham United head into this fixture off the back of a 3-0 defeat away from home against play-off chasing Preston North End, taking their run of games without a win to 16 in all competitions.

Duane Holmes opened the scoring for the Lilywhites on Friday afternoon before Emil Riis bagged a brace to wrap up the scoring before the first half even came to an end. The Millers are now sleepwalking towards relegation, a reality which could be confirmed on Monday should results not go their way, rooted to 24th spot in the table.

Millwall, on the other hand, have begun edging away from the bottom three. They registered another point in their last encounter after drawing 1-1 against West Brom at The Den.

Duncan Watmore had initially put the Lions ahead after 23 minutes, but John Swift’s 67th minute penalty ensured that the match ended all square. Neil Harris’ men are now 16th in the Championship, five points above the relegation zone with seven left to play.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

Jacob Hackett

“It seems inevitable that Rotherham are set for a return to League One next season, though if they are to stand any chance of miraculously staying up they simply have to win on Monday.

Millwall will head to the AESSEAL New York Stadium with renewed confidence following their improved form since Harris’ appointment, and the Lions should feel confident of grabbing a result on their travels.

“The Millers seem dead and buried at this point, though the unpredictable nature of the Championship suggests that they are due to pick up at least another point before the season draws to a close.

“I can’t see Leam Richardson’s side shutting out their visitors, but I do have a sneaky feeling that they may be able to hold them to a draw.”

Who is this?

James Ray

“It’s a harsh thing to say but realistically, it won’t get easier than this for Millwall. Rotherham United are rooted to the bottom of the table for a reason and with wins so valuable, the Lions have to claim all three points here.

“The Millers will be determined to frustrate the visitors and perhaps claim a rare win of their own. However, Harris has had a good impact at The Den, and I think they’ll have enough to win here.

“It might not be the prettiest game of football, but I’ll go for a 1-0 away win.”
