‘Seriously worrying’ – Leyton Orient vs Peterborough United prediction: The72

The72’s writers offer their Leyton Orient vs Peterborough United prediction ahead of the League One clash on Monday afternoon.

Leyton Orient come into the clash with Peterborough United fresh off the back of a late Good Friday loss to fellow late play-off hunters Lincoln City. Jovon Makama scored a last-gasp winner, leaving the O’s six points off the top six in 10th while the Imps moved into 6th.

It’s been a strong first campaign back in League One for Orient, even if their late push tails off.

Peterborough United meanwhile suffered another big blow to their automatic promotion push. They were unable to bounce back from the Portsmouth defeat, this time losing to League Two-bound Carlisle United at home.

It was a dismal afternoon for Posh and means they’re now 10 points off 2nd. They’re 4th in the League One table and have two games in hand on Derby County, but a return to form is a must.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

James Ray

Peterborough United need to get back on form and fast. A defeat to Carlisle while chasing the top two is a real blow, and Leyton Orient won’t be an easy side to get a win against.

“We’ve seen before that Posh can get stuck in a rut at times. While they’re capable of piecing together brilliant winning runs, they can take time to pick themselves up and embark on worrying winless streaks too. After that seriously worrying loss on Friday, they could suffer another blow here.

“Orient are a tricky customer and will be determined to bounce back from their late heartbreak. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the hosts emerge victorious here, but I’ll say this ends 1-1.”

Who is this?

Jacob Hackett

“Two losses from their last two fixtures has dealt a big blow to Peterborough’s automatic promotion hopes, and Ferguson’s side are in need of a big response against Leyton Orient on their travels.

“Orient’s form has been up and down as of late, but their recent games have all been closely contested which suggests a similar outcome might play out on Monday.

“The Posh have bounced back from multiple losses before during this campaign, in fine fashion too, and I’m edging towards that being the case again at the Gaughan Group Stadium.

“I expect both teams to find the target, with the away side ultimately grinding out a narrow victory.”
