‘Just about safe’ – Stoke City vs Huddersfield Town prediction: The72

The72’s writers offer their Stoke City vs Huddersfield Town prediction ahead of the Championship clash on Monday afternoon.

Stoke City come into their Easter Monday clash with relegation rivals Huddersfield Town off the back of an impressive win over Hull City. The Potters beat the play-off hopefuls 2-0 away from home to move five points clear of the drop and 17th in the Championship table.

Steven Schumacher’s side have started to gain some momentum and could move eight points above the drop with a win here.

Huddersfield Town meanwhile were beaten by Coventry City, leaving them 22nd in the Championship. They’re level on points with Birmingham City above them after the Blues lost to QPR.

Andre Breitenreiter’s side are now winless in five and unless a turnaround in form starts soon, they could be League One-bound.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

James Ray

Stoke City have started to get some wins under their belt and amid justified fears of a drop from the Championship, I think they’ll be okay now. The same can’t be said for Huddersfield Town though.

“Frankly, the Terriers are lacking the quality to get wins and I struggle to see where the momentum comes from. They’re at risk of being cut off before the campaign’s end unless they can claim victories and fast.

“I think they suffer another defeat here. It extends the gap between Stoke and the drop and with that, I think the Potters will be just about safe.”

Who is this?

Jacob Hackett

“The Potters’ form has been up and down during recent weeks, every win has followed a loss in their past six fixtures, but that form would be enough to keep them up should they continue in that vein for the rest of the season.

“They face a Huddersfield outfit sat in the relegation zone without a victory in their last five, although the Terriers do look an improved outfit since Breitenreiter’s appointment regardless of their recent results.

“Stoke will be full of confidence after their away success on Friday, and back on home soil they might expect to make it back-to-back wins in their bid for safety. I do, however, think that the away side will be up for the fight.

“I can see a draw being played out on this occasion.”

Stoke City vs Huddersfield Town prediction: 2-2
