Two huge boosts: Derby County team news and predicted XI to face Blackpool

The latest Derby County team news as Paul Warne’s side gear up to face Blackpool in League One on Good Friday.

The latest Derby County team news as Paul Warne’s side gear up to face Blackpool in League One this afternoon.

Derby County return to Pride Park for their next dosage of third tier action following a disappointing 1-0 defeat away from home against Northampton Town last weekend. A first-half strike from Sam Hoskins was the difference as the Rams failed to make it five wins on the bounce.

Paul Warne’s side remain 2nd in the League One table with a four-point gap behind them. Now though, their League One promotion rivals now have one or two games in hand to close the gap on Warne’s squad as we enter the business end of the campaign.

The reverse league fixture between the Rams and Blackpool saw the East Midlands outfit prevail as 3-1 winners. However, the two sides have met at Pride Park this season too, with the Seasiders winning 2-0 when they faced off in the EFL Cup.

Derby County team news

It was a mixed bag of injury news from Warne when he spoke to the press pre-game (as relayed by DerbyshireLive).

Two huge boosts emerged with Derby County top scorer James Collins set to return from injury ahead of schedule and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing declared fit after a scare in the last encounter.

Sonny Bradley was shown a straight red card against the Cobblers meaning he is out of contention for the next three matches. Max Bird, Tom Barkhuizen and Craig Forsyth are all out with calf injuries.

Forsyth now joins Ryan Nyambe and Jake Rooney in the group of players unlikely to feature again this season, but Josh Vickers is now back in training and could be up for selection again ‘very soon’, Warne said.

Rounding off the Rams’ team news, winter signing Dwight Gayle is set to be out for another three weeks after he limped off against Bolton Wanderers two weeks ago.

Mendez-Laing

Collins

Blackett-Taylor

With only two centre-backs available for selection, Warne may have no option but to return to a four at the back which would see Eiran Cashin and Curtis Nelson retain their spots.

Joe Ward and Callum Elder might return as the starting full-backs. Conor Hourihane could be accompanied by Korey Smith and the ever-reliable Ebou Adams in the middle of the park.

Back in contention, Collins seems the obvious pick to start up top. Either side of him, Mendez-Laing is likely to start on one flank with a rare start for Corey Blackett-Taylor perhaps the solution on the other side due to Barkhuizen’s injury.
