Blackburn Rovers and Ipswich Town are battling it out at opposite ends of the Championship table, and both are in need of a win to aid their respective fights as the we enter the final stages of the campaign.

John Eustace is yet to win as Rovers boss but he’s tightened up their backline. They’re in a precarious spot though, 17th in the Championship and three points clear of the drop.

The Tractor Boys meanwhile are 3rd in the league, a point behind Leeds United and Leicester City in the top two. They bounced back to winning ways prior to the break in rampant fashion, thrashing Sheffield Wednesday 6-0 at Portman Road.

Here, we pick out five players who could dictate Blackburn Rovers vs Ipswich Town

Chelsea loanee Hutchinson has developed notably as the season has progressed. He’s got eight goals and six assists to his name across all competitions, with two goals and one assist coming in the thrashing of Sheffield Wednesday.

He’ll either start as the no.10 or on the right this afternoon and will be a tricky customer to deal with.

Sammie Szmodics

Recent Republic of Ireland debutant Szmodics has been Blackburn Rovers‘ saving grace this season. You dread to think where they would be without his 27 goals across all competitions.

He’ll be looking to make darting runs into the channels for shooting opportunities, so the Ipswich Town defence will need to be at the top of their game.

Cameron Burgess

Burgess is one man who will likely be tasked with keeping the dangerous Szmodics quiet. His absence was felt when away with Australia over the winter and he has cemented his place as one of the more important players in Kieran McKenna’s side.

He will likely partner Luke Woolfenden at the heart of the backline.

Who is this?

Dominic Hyam

Blackburn Rovers have their own key defender in the form of Hyam. After a brilliant attacking display from Ipswich Town before the break, Hyam will be tasked with leading from the back in a bid to keep the visitors quiet.

There could be some big physical battles between him and Kieffer Moore.

Ali Al Hamadi

Al Hamadi has mainly found his minutes as a substitute since joining in January. However, he’s made the step up from League Two football in impressive fashion.

The 22-year-old scored twice off the bench against Wednesday and his tally of four goals in nine substitute appearances equates to a stunning goal every 27 minutes.
