Swindon Town man ruled out for the rest of the season with hip injury

Swindon Town interim boss Gavin Gunning has said Saidou Khan is out for the rest of the season.

Swindon Town have been dealt a big blow on the injury front with the midfielder poised to be sidelined until the summer.

Khan, 28, has been a regular for the League Two side in the middle of the park in this campaign but has missed the last two games against Accrington Stanley and Doncaster Rovers.

Gunning has provided this update on his situation, as per a report by the Swindon Advertiser: “Saidou Khan is out for the season. I know the fans have been getting on at his [Khan’s] performances, but he has been plagued with this injury for a little while and he has played on and you can see it has affected his performances massively.”

Khan’s absence isn’t ideal for Swindon as they look to hit some form. They are currently sat in 20th place in the table ahead of their Easter games against Notts County and Sutton United.

The Gambia-born man has been on the books of the Wiltshire outfit since 2022 and has since made 70 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with two goals and four assists.

Khan worked his way up the football pyramid from non-league and ended up at Chesterfield in 2021 after they snapped him up from Maidstone United.

He impressed during his 12 months with the Spirerites before Swindon swooped in for his signature.

Football Insider reported last November that Wrexham were keen on landing him in the January transfer window. However, nothing materialised in the end.

Khan may well be playing under a new manager by the time he is fit again. Gunning is only in interim charge after Michael Flynn’s sacking but it remains to be seen whether he will be staying beyond the summer.

Swindon have a big managerial decision to make as they look to end this term on a high. They are 11 points above the drop zone.
