Norwich City ‘expecting’ major player boost for Plymouth Argyle clash

Norwich City manager David Wagner has told Pink Un that he is expecting Josh Sargent to be in the matchday squad when they face Plymouth Argyle on Friday.

Norwich City look to be on course to secure a spot in the play-offs as things stand. They sit 6th in the table and are three points ahead of Hull City in 7th. Although the Tigers do have a game-in-hand.

The Canaries will be targeting a place in the Championship top six and will be hoping to maintain their momentum. They face Plymouth Argyle on Good Friday at Carrow Road where they will look to strengthen their position in the standings.

To do this they will need their best players fit and available to help in the run-in and manager Wagner has confirmed they may be able to call upon star man Sargent when they take on the Pilgrims tomorrow afternoon.

Speaking to Pink Un, the Norwich City boss provided an update on Sargent following the 24-year-old’s withdrawal from international duty due to injury.

“We are expecting him to be part of the matchday squad, yes,” Wagner confirmed.

“They were in the treatment room more or less the whole international break. He has trained a few sessions this week, not all of them, but we are used to it in recent weeks and months. We have to deal with the situation.

Shane Duffy, Jonathan Rowe, Grant Hanley and Dimitrios Giannoulis are all expected to remain on the treatment table however, and aren’t likely to feature.

A huge boost for Norwich City

Sargent has been one of the Canaries’ standout performers this season with 13 goals and one assist in just 18 league appearances. To have him fit will be essential to them achieving a place in the top six.

It is uncertain whether the forward will be fit enough to start against Plymouth Argyle, or even make an appearance from the bench, but it suggests his injury isn’t as bad as first feared.

Wagner may not wish to risk Sargent tomorrow afternoon, especially with important fixtures against Leicester City and Ipswich Town over the next couple of weeks.
