‘Do or die’ – QPR vs Birmingham City prediction: The72

The72’s writers offer their QPR vs Birmingham City prediction ahead of the Championship clash on Friday afternoon.

QPR come into this clash with fellow relegation candidates Birmingham City looking for a return to winning ways. They’re without a win in three in the Championship but two draws means they’re still out of the bottom three.

Martii Cifuentes has led a fantastic turnaround at Loftus Road since taking over. The R’s sit 20th in the Championship table, one place and one point above their next opponents.

Speaking of Birmingham City, they’re only out of the relegated zone on goal difference. A continued slide towards the drop zone threatens to send them down to League One.

This is the first game for the returning Gary Rowett, who will lead the Blues on an interim basis until the end of the season while Tony Mowbray is on medical leave.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

James Ray

“This is a huge game in the Championship relegation picture. It’s getting towards do or die stage for QPR and Birmingham City, but I’m not sure either side will get the result they want here.

QPR have seen their form dip a bit but Loftus Road has become a tough place to go. And, with the Blues’ away form looking really poor, the hosts might be able to snatch a huge win.

“However, with Rowett sure to have galvanised his new squad over the break, I think the visitors might just get something. I’ll say this ends level at 1-1.”

Who is this?

Jacob Hackett

“The definition of a relegation six-pointer. This is a really intriguing encounter and it could truly go any way.

“There is no denying that QPR’s form has been much better than Birmingham’s as of late, although both sides have been far from perfect this season.

“The reintroduction of Rowett on an interim basis may have given the Blues a lift, and his defensive style of play may play a big part in their chances of survival.

“I see both teams scoring with little to separate them on this occasion. A score draw feels right.”
