Southampton eyeing new transfer target for the summer, player penned contract last year

Southampton are eyeing a move for Valenciennes defender Joachim Kayi Sanda, according to a report by French news outlet Foot Mercato.

Southampton are being linked with a swoop for the centre-back at the end of this season.

Kayi Sanda, 17, is a France youth international and has captained his country at Under-17’s level.

As per Foot Mercato, the teenager ‘could’ link up with the Saints in the next transfer window after emerging on the radar of their owners, Danish investment fund Sport Republic.

Southampton may see Kayi Sanda as someone to bolster their defensive ranks in the future.

He is under contract at Valenciennes under June 2026 meaning that they are under no pressure to cash in on him just yet.

The prospect started out with local sides Antony Sports, Antony Evolution and AC Boulogne-Billancourt before joining his current club in 2021.

Kayi Sanda penned his first professional contract in September last year and made his first-team debut a month later.

He has since made 12 appearances in Ligue 2 in this campaign and has caught the eye. Valenciennes are bottom of the table though and his future there will be in doubt should they drop into the third tier.

Southampton are currently eyeing promotion from the Championship and are sat in the play-offs in 4th position.

They are nine points off the top two as they chase down the likes of Leeds United, Leicester City and Ipswich Town.

Russell Martin’s side are in action on Friday with a home clash against Middlesbrough. They then face an away trip to Ipswich on Easter Monday.
