‘Complicated’ – Daniel Farke confirms key Leeds United man will not return this season

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has confirmed to the press that key defender Pascal Struijk will miss the remainder of the season.

Leeds United currently sit top of the table with eight games left to play. They will be looking to maintain momentum and achieve a place in the automatic promotion spots come the end of the season.

However, they will have to do this without the help of one of their star players. Centre-back Struijk may not have played since December but he had played a huge part in their campaign up to that point.

He has been kept out with a groin injury, and this now looks set to keep him out of action until next season, Farke has confirmed in his pre-match press conference.

The Whites boss stated that he has had surgery on the issue, and will miss the rest of the season, as relayed by journalist Phil Hay on X.

“It was long and complicated. It went well. He started to stay his first steps into rehab,” said Farke.

Leeds United get their Championship campaign back underway on Good Friday when they travel to Watford, where a win could strengthen their position at the top.

There is positive news on the injury front for Farke’s side however, with attacker Georginio Rutter returning to training. However, the Watford clash may come too early for the Frenchman.

A huge blow for Leeds United

Despite Struijk not having played since December, they have thrived in his absence. Ethan Ampadu and Joe Rodon have formed a fantastic partnership in the centre of defence for Leeds United since.

However, Struijk’s influence will still sorely be missed both on the pitch and in the dressing room. It means they have less strength in depth and his experience would be a huge factor in carrying them over the line to promotion.

To have him back in pre-season will be a bonus, especially with Rodon going back to parent club Tottenham Hotspur and the uncertainty surrounding his future at Elland Road beyond his loan.
